Hi My Name is Lorie and I am a Canadian fiber artist

My road to becoming a fiber artist began as far back as I can remember spending hours as a child pouring over the 1000’s of fabric samples in my fathers Interior Design shop. I fell in love with the color combinations, the textures and the patterns while searching for a discontinued swatch I could cut out and make something with. An education in Fashion Design fallowed. After decades of working with fabrics I began to experiment with the idea of deconstruction. What if the threads are freed from the constraints of weave or knit what then can be achieved and how.

Artist statement

Colour lies at the heart of my artistic expression. I explore the relationships between lines of colour and the emotions they evoke . Relationships that are not interwoven but run parallel in harmonic dance.

Inspired by the natural world, I work exclusively with natural fibers such as cotton, wool and linen. I have released these cords from the constraints of weave or stitch to adhere them in parallel sequences to canvas. By retaining the individual entities rather than blending them, the viewer’s eye completes the connection of harmony or friction.
